Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

This Certificate equips those who wish to meet the large and growing need in North America and around the world for teachers of English to speakers of other languages. A strong academic foundation in theory and practice produces effective classroom instructors and curriculum and materials developers.
The Certificate can be completed in one year of full-time study. Those who hold appropriate Bible College credits can complete the Certificate in the month of June or August each year, or by taking the core of TESOL courses during the regular school year. The Certificate may be obtained at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Note: Those who have already completed an undergraduate degree may pursue a Master of Arts in Global Studies or an M.A. in Educational Studies with a TESOL major, including the Certificate requirements and an additional 30 hours of seminary credit. Non-native speakers of English must demonstrate an adequate proficiency in English in order to enter the program (520 TOEFL P.P.T./ 190 C.B.T equivalent; the requirements for the intensive summer program are 600 TOEFL P.B.T./ 250 C.B.T. equivalent).

Training Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages

The Certificate in Training Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages is intended to prepare those who have already received training and experience in TESOL to train teachers for this vital task. In order to enter this program, students must already have a relevant undergraduate degree as well as the TESOL Certificate(or its equivalent). The TTESOL Certificate may be taken separately or as a part of the M.A. in Educational Studies, TTESOL major, or the Master of Arts in Global Studies. By itself, it may be completed in one year of study or, in combination with the M.A., in two years.
Students with the TTESOL Certificate and the M.A. have found positions teaching TESOL classes in post-secondary institutions in Canada and overseas.
Cross-Cultural Descipleship Certificate

This program is designed to equip men and women who wish to meet the growing demand for a discipleship that trains and equips people for service in cross-cultural settings. It is designed to assist them in developing an awareness of culture, an awareness of teaching principles, and an ability to meet those needs. The graduate should be able to disciple others who will be disciplers in their own culture. Those taking this certificate will be required to be involved in a practical ministry with Project L.A.M.B.S. or another approved agency.

The Seminary Counselling Department partners with the Rankin Counselling Programme in presenting a Counselling Diploma. This program is designed to train men and women as (non-vocational) counsellors for ministry in the Norther Territories. This program gives the theoretical foundation and the basic skills to promote Christian growth through offering spiritual encouragement and help. It is presented in Rankin Inlet, and Providence Theological Seminary confers the diploma. This training is currently offered at Inuvik and Fort Smith, Northwest Territories; Rankin Inlet and Ilaquit, Nunavut; Dryden, Ontario; and Sisimiut, Greenland. For more information please contact:
